After a disappointing draw with Athletic Club last week, Barcelona were able to get back to winning ways after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over RCD Mallorca.
It was not the most productive attacking display from the Catalans – a point highlighted by Xavi Hernandez himself during the post-match presser. But a wonderful goal from Lamine Yamal ensured that Barcelona came out with all three points.
Despite the win, however, Barcelona fans had a worrying moment when Raphinha was taken off just before half-time, leading many to believe that the attacker might have sustained an injury.
Raphinha’s substitution was a precaution
However, in the post-match presser, Xavi confirmed that none of the Barcelona players picked up any injuries from the Mallorca game.
When asked about Raphinha, the coach said his substitution was a precautionary measure after the attacker picked up a minor blow, earlier in the game.
“Raphinha’s substitution was for precaution. It was just a blow, in principle he’s not injured,” Xavi said.
Ready for the Napoli clash
In light of Raphinha’s ‘precautionary substitution’, RAC1 has issued an important update, suggesting that the Brazilian international will be available to feature against Napoli, in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash.
Barcelona will be heading into that game on the back of a 1-1 draw in the first leg, meaning the Catalans must secure a victory over the Partenopei if they are to qualify for the quarterfinal stages.
Raphinha’s presence, therefore, could prove to be critical, as far as Barcelona’s creative department is concerned. This becomes particularly important considering the fact that Barça are missing out on the services of key players such as Gavi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong.
