The future of Joao Felix next season remains unclear as ever. His loan deal at Barcelona expires at the end of the season while Atletico Madrid are not keen on having him back.
Barcelona are interested in having Felix for the season ahead, but they are not too keen on exploring a permanent option.
This has led to great uncertainty over the future of the former SL Benfica starlet, with neither party unsure what to do in the months to come.
Diego Simeone demands a solution
In the midst of such uncertainty, it appears Atletico Madrid has taken the first step, with coach Diego Simeone demanding a ‘quick solution’ for the future of Felix, reports Diario SPORT.
Felix has burnt all bridges at Atletico Madrid and there is no way for him to return to Civitas Metropolitano. He has a particularly poor relationship with coach Simeone.
Simeone, who holds a lot of power at Atleti, has now demanded the board find a quick solution as he does not want Felix to be on the club’s payroll next season.
Boost for Barça
The animosity between Joao Felix and Atletico Madrid, coupled with Simeone’s growing frustration could play into the hands of Barcelona.
As mentioned earlier, the Catalans are interested in renewing Felix’s loan deal. And with Atletico Madrid desperate to offload the player, they might have no option but to renew the agreement with Barcelona.
A loan deal with an option to buy could be explored, though Barcelona will likely push for a non-mandatory purchase option.
In fact, the report adds that if Barcelona have space available in their Financial Fair Play margin, then Joao Felix will continue to become a part of the team next season.
