Last night was one to forget for Barcelona as they lost two very crucial players to injury during the goalless draw against Athletic Club.
Indeed, Xavi lost both Pedri and Frenkie de Jong to what appeared like serious injuries, which could mean that the pair might be out for a prolonged time.
However, it is not all bad news for Barcelona for they are close to recovering a couple of players from injury.
Ferran Torres, Marcos Alonso closing in on return
Indeed, Roger Torello of Mundo Deportivo, is reporting that Barcelona duo Ferran Torres and Marcos Alonso are in the final stretch of their recoveries and could soon be back in action.
Torres has been out with a thigh injury since late January when he was taken off in the game against Osasuna. It was a shame, as the 24-year-old had been in good form at that point.
But, Torres is now closing in on a return as the Spaniard is in the final phase of his recovery. The plan would be for him to rejoin team training this week so that he can get some minutes against Mallorca on Friday, so that he would be 100% ready to face Napoli next week.
As for Alonso, the Barcelona defender has not played since November due to a back problem, for which he underwent surgery in January.
Having now had a two-month recovery period, the veteran left-back is now closing in on a return, which would be a welcome boost for Xavi Hernandez, considering that Joao Cancelo is being used at left-back due to Alejandro Balde’s injury-enforced absence.
Gavi and Balde will miss the rest of the season, while an update on the conditions of Pedri and Frenkie de Jong should emerge today. But, Torres and Alonso are close to making a comeback for Barcelona.
