It was only yesterday that Barcelona president Joan Laporta mentioned that the club has been receiving offers worth €200 million for players like Lamine Yamal.
“We are getting offers for players like Lamine Yamal, for €200 million, and we have said no. Because, we trust the boy, in his sports projection, and we do not have the need, on the contrary [to sell him],” the president said.
If reports are to be believed, it was Paris Saint-Germain who sent the offer. However, transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano has affirmed that PSG did not make an offer.
In reality, though, the Ligue 1 side only inquired about the 16-year-old’s availability and nothing else.
What’s the story?
The reporter mentioned that although PSG are very much interested in Yamal, no offer has been sent. In fact, there has been no contact between the French team and Barcelona, although considering the interest, there might be.
“Sources guarantee that the club that is prepared to approach Barcelona for Yamal is PSG. There is an interest from PSG, but at the moment, we do not have the confirmation or official proposal, but we know how it works,” said Romano.
“The word is about asking information, trying to approach clubs, using agents as part of this,” he added.
Barcelona will say no anyway
It is to be noted that Yamal is the cornerstone of Barcelona’s project and Romano mentioned that even if there is an offer worth €200 million for the forward, Barcelona will reject it despite their financial difficulties.
The 16-year-old prodigy, who became a part of the senior squad this season, has been an unassailable presence for the team, scoring six goals and providing seven assists across 39 games in all competitions.
Given his talent and the future scope for improvement, it is only logical for Barcelona to reject offers regardless of the magnitude of the transfer fee.
