Barcelona are trying hard to find a suitable replacement for Xavi, but to date, their efforts haven’t culminated in anything positive.
So far, several names including Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann, Roberto De Zerbi and Luis Enrique have been linked, but Barcelona have not established firm contacts with any.
Enrique was thought to be on Barcelona’s agenda for quite a while, but a report from Diario SPORT has affirmed that the team from Catalonia has not made any contact with him. In fact, the former Barcelona coach is not at all an option right now.
What happened to Enrique?
It is not that Barcelona are against Enrique. In fact, the management rates him quite highly while the dressing room thinks he is the perfect coach to lead the Barcelona project.
He believes in giving chances to young players, something that aligns with the team’s philosophy and knows a lot about the club. Plus, he is experienced and can handle pressure well.
But there’s a problem – Enrique already has a contract with Paris Saint-Germain. The Spaniard had just joined the club last summer and is in no hurry to leave the French capital just yet.
He’s happy in Paris
At present, Enrique is enjoying his time in Paris and wants to finish the second year of his contract. He is the kind of person who keeps his word and follows through on his agreements.
It is said that PSG are also happy with him, even with the difficult situation involving a certain Kylian Mbappe. At PSG, they believe that Enrique has handled the entire situation really well.
For now, not only PSG but even Enrique is not thinking of an exit and there is even talk about extending his contract for another year because the team is pleased with how things are going.
