Soon-to-be-free Arsenal midfielder would be delighted to play for Barcelona – report

As the summer transfer window approaches, Barcelona’s transfer strategies have started to gear up and in that regard, Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has emerged as a potential candidate mostly because he will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Journalist Luis Miguelsanz is reporting via SPORT that while Barcelona are against the idea of signing a player above 30, they have been forced to look into players like Jorginho because of the club’s financial situation.

Moreover, it is also said that the player would be delighted to play for Barcelona.

Club president Joan Laporta wants to sign at least one big-name player for the team this summer, but the team does not have a lot of money for other signings which is why he is thinking of creative ways to strengthen the team without spending too much.

Jorginho was a target in January as well

It is to be noted that Jorginho is someone whom Barcelona assessed during the January market as well owing to Gavi’s injury.

Right now, he is doing pretty well at Arsenal, and since his contract ends this season, he remains a perfect candidate for Barcelona’s blueprint.

The journalist claims that Jorginho wanted to join Barça even during his Napoli days, but the move did not complete as Chelsea signed him instead.

Within the club, there is a reluctance to sign players who are over 30 but for Jorginho, they might make an exception due to the urgent need to bring in a pivot as their plans with Oriol Romeu haven’t done well.

Compromise amidst urgency

Deco, who knows Jorginho well, had a plan to keep key players, sell those with less playing time, and bring in a left-footed winger and a top-level pivot.

But the plan is facing challenges, especially with the chosen pivot, Amadou Onana from Everton, being too expensive. Now, Deco is looking for players who can perform well for a year or two while waiting for better financial times.

Barça is concerned about a tough year ahead, and unless players like Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong bring in high sales, big signings might have to wait until the new Camp Nou is inaugurated, bringing in more revenue.
