Over the past few months, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made it clear that he would prefer if manager Xavi Hernandez continues as manager beyond this season.
The 44-year-old tactician announced he would be leaving once the season was over back in January itself. But following that, there was a spectacular turnaround of form and fortune for the team, sparking Laporta’s backing of Xavi.
Even though the manager appeared reluctant to stay, there appears to be a change in his stance now, as he is considering staying on at Barcelona.
However, as per a fresh report from RAC1, Laporta and some members in the sporting department are having doubts about Xavi and his staff.
Laporta to set some conditions for Xavi to stay
Indeed, with Barcelona set to finish the season without any trophy or title, Laporta & co. are starting to have some doubts regarding Xavi and his coaching staff.
As such, the Barça administration plan to take advantage of the upcoming meeting with the manager to impose some conditions on him if he decides to stay on.
One of the conditions that will be put forth is regarding the technical staff as they see some deficiencies in that area and will want to strengthen it before the season starts if Xavi is to continue as the head coach.
However, this will not be the only condition.
As has previously been reported, Barcelona also do not plan on accepting Xavi’s demands to strengthen the squad and the manager must adapt to the club’s current situation.
What if Xavi does not stay?
In the scenario that Xavi does not plan to stay under the conditions imposed by the Barcelona management, alternatives will be sought.
Barça Atletic coach Rafa Marquez remains the first choice in that case, with the club even considering offering him a one-year extension.
On the other hand, the Blaugrana are not ruling out hiring a new coach altogether if they return to the 1:1 rule in the summer.
