Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has sent a message to the fans ahead of Blaugrana’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie against Paris Saint Germain.
The youngster relayed a simple message across his social media channel, writing, “We are prepared.”
Barcelona are gearing up for what could be their most pivotal European match in the past half-decade as they face off against PSG.
Now, with a new generation at the helm of Xavi’s project, there is a renewed sense of optimism among Barcelona supporters, especially after the performance in the first leg where Raphinha’s brace guided the team to a 3-2 win against all odds.
Led by talents Yamal, and emerging stars like Pau Cubarsi, who has already cemented his place in the starting lineup, there is a blend of youthful exuberance and determination to etch their names in history.
Yamal chases a record
Yamal, a 16-year-old prodigy, is expected to join Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski in attack even during the second leg.
It is to be noted that he has participated in all nine Champions League matches this season but is yet to score in Europe’s premier competition.
However, if he manages to find the back of the net against Paris Saint-Germain, he will become the youngest scorer in UEFA Champions League history.
Currently, the record is held by Ansu Fati, who scored at the age of just 17 years and 40 days.
The Barcelona loanee achieved this milestone during a victory against Inter Milan in the group stage of the 2019/20 season, which happened to be Ernesto Valverde’s final European game as Barcelona’s coach.
Yamal, who will turn 17 in July, has a shot at breaking Ansu’s record against PSG, however, if Barcelona advance to the semifinals, Yamal will have two more opportunities to claim the record.
