‘Cancelo was responsible’ – Pundit blames Barcelona defender for PSG blow

Barcelona’s Champions League dreams were shattered completely when they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain last night.

The result meant PSG qualified to the semis on an aggregate win of 6-4 and will face Borussia Dortmund in the last four stage.

Barcelona’s performance on the night was not taken well by some of the fans. While Xavi and co maintain that the refereeing was indeed poor, a few pundits have called out Joao Cancelo for his poor display against PSG.

Albert Blaya blames Cancelo’s performance

Reacting to the final scoreline, Spanish football pundit Albert Blaya did not hesitate in calling out Cancelo’s performance on the night.

He pointed out that Cancelo was responsible for allowing PSG to level the scoreline in the first half. He was also responsible for conceding a cheap penalty in the second half.

“Cancelo was responsible for PSG’s first goal, and made one of the most absurd fouls to cause a penalty that can be made. Impossible to compete with so little concentration,” Albert Blaya wrote on X.

A night to forget

Cancelo was indeed one of the worst performers for Barcelona on the night, alongside the likes of Ronald Araujo and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The Portuguese international started the game well but started to lose his concentration as time progressed.

In the 40th minute, he left Ousmane Dembele vacant on the far side, and the former Barça starlet made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

As mentioned earlier, Cancelo also gifted PSG a penalty in the second half after fouling Dembele inside the box. A night to forget for the experienced full-back.
