Tensions are running high as Barcelona take on Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal this evening.
PSG players already received a hostile response yesterday morning, upon their arrival in Barcelona, with Ousmane Dembele, in particular, facing insults from Barcelona fans.
It appears the Barça fans were not too happy with Dembele celebrating with rage after scoring against his former club in the first leg.
Firecrackers thrown at PSG hotel
Now, in yet another case of hostility towards PSG players by the home fans, videos have been captured showcasing fireworks just outside the hotel where the PSG contingent is staying, as per El Chiringuito.
PSG players are currently residing at the famous W Hotel in Barcelona. As mentioned earlier, Dembele received a cold reception from the Barça fans outside of the same hotel yesterday.
Now, locals have gone a step above by bursting firecrackers outside the W Hotel in the middle of the night.
It appears the locals’ intention is to interrupt the night’s rest of the PSG players, who had to make the trip to Catalonia on Monday.
Are things going too far?
While the cold welcome for Dembele was unsurprising given the Frenchman’s celebration in the first leg, firecrackers outside the hotel are an alarming sign of animosity developing between the two sets of fans heading into tonight’s encounter.
However, considering the actions of PSG ultras in the first leg, such kind of response was anticipated by the Barcelona fans.
Not only were there firecrackers set off outside Barcelona players’ hotel in Paris, but the PSG ultras also hurled abusive chants towards the stars at Parc des Princes.
It now remains to be seen whether or not such kind of animosity will be replicated on the pitch tonight.
