With the one-goal advantage against PSG in the Champions League quarterfinal, Barcelona will carry a layer of confidence with them heading into the second leg on home soil.
However, rather than the customary surroundings of Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona will take on PSG at the Olympic LLuis Companys stadium.
The stadium has served as Barça’s home stadium this season owing to the reconstruction of Camp Nou.
PSG believe Barcelona will not benefit at Montjuic
Indeed, according to SPORT (h/t Barca Universal) in Paris they say that because the game is being played at Montjuic instead of the iconic Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona will not benefit much from the stadium atmosphere and fan support.
While it is true that the Montjuic fails to replicate the stadium capacity or aura of the Camp Nou, with fan seating placed farther away from the pitch, the Blaugranes will still be in the presence of their loyalists in the heart of Barcelona.
For instance, the recent Champions League affair against Napoli saw an incredible atmosphere, especially leading up to the game, with fans taking to the streets.
Moreover, it is unlikely that Barça will be too bothered by the stadium’s venue.
Despite playing the first leg away from home, Barcelona appeared unfazed by the hostile environment of the Parc des Princes and secured a convincing 3-2 victory.
With the season in its final stretches, the team is also now used to the stadium, which was arguably not the case early on.
Xavi urges fans to rock up in numbers
After triumphing over Cadiz with a 1-0 win, Xavi asked the supporters to pack the Olympic Lluis Companys stadium in their upcoming encounter with PSG.
“Nothing has been decided in the PSG tie. I ask the fans: go to Montjuïc, fill up the stadium, support us, and enjoy the match,” he encouraged.
Although the hosts will begin with a narrow lead, Luis Enrique’s men are not expected to bow out of the competition easily.
