Barcelona prodigy’s agents in almost full agreement with club’s contract offer

In a major development, SPORT reports that Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi is ever so close to completing his contract renewal with the club.

Cubarsi has been one of Barça’s positive stories this season. The centre-back made his debut for the first team at the age of 16 in January against Unionistas in a Copa del Rey match and has since become a regular in Xavi Hernandez’s line-ups.

Cubarsi’s excellent performances led him to make his debut in the senior Spanish national team, with whom he has a good chance of playing in the Euros, and has also aroused the interest of big European clubs.

As such, Barça’s sporting management, led by Deco, has been working for weeks on improving and extending his contract, as his current deal, until 30 June 2026, is typical of a player of youth age and has a release clause of €10 million.

Negotiations with Cubarsi’s representatives have been going on for weeks and it is clear to both parties that there will be an agreement, among other things because Cubarsí is only thinking about playing for Barça.

At the moment, the centre-back’s agents have an offer from Barça on the table and the deal should be finalised once the current season is over.

Barcelona’s plan is to bring the player’s contract in line with his current performance and that when he turns 18, on 22 January next year, he will be committed to the club until 30 June 2029.

The club values Cubarsi and proposes a salary that will increase over the years, going from €4 million next year to €12 million in the last year of his contract.

With the agreement advanced as far as the financial part is concerned, the duration of the new commitment should be five years, as the player’s representatives prefer.

The termination clause that Cubarsi will have has yet to be finalised. Barça’s idea was for him to join the €1,000 million club, which includes Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati, Gavi, Pedri and Ronald Araujo.

The player’s agents, though, are leaning for a figure in the region of €500 million.
