Barcelona are gearing up for a huge summer transfer window under the new management of Hansi Flick, who replaced Xavi Hernandez at the helm of affairs.
The Blaugrana are prioritising the signing of a new pivot midfielder as well as a left-winger, provided finances permit.
As has been established already, Joshua Kimmich is seen as the priority to reinforce the defensive midfield position.
Nico Williams the priority for the wing
Now, journalist Albert Fernandez reports that Barcelona see Athletic Club winger Nico Williams as the priority for the left wing.
Williams, 21, has been on Barça’s agenda since last year, but things appeared to cool down a bit after he signed a new contract with Los Leones in December.
The deal consists of a €60 million release clause which his suitors will have to trigger if they intend to sign him.
As per previous reports, Barcelona have never broken contact with Williams’ entourage with the player expected to be open to make the jump to Catalonia.
Names like Luis Diaz of Liverpool and Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have also been touted as targets, but are likely to be out of reach financially.
As such, Nico could be seen as the most gettable, although Barça would still need to sanction a sale in order to raise funds to sign the Spanish international.
However, Barcelona are not the only club interested in Nico Williams as Bayern Munich have also recently entered the race for the 21-year-old winger.
So, it remains to be seen how things develop as far as Barcelona’s interest in Nico is concerned and whether they are able to sign him or look at other options.
