Barcelona striker will start ‘from scratch’ with Hansi Flick, confirms agent

Vitor Roque’s agent, Andre Cury, has shared some insights about the young Brazilian forward’s situation at Barcelona, saying that under Hansi Flick, the player will start his Barcelona journey from scratch.

Cury emphasised that his client, who hoped to get more playing time under coach Xavi, is a top-tier player, comparing him to renowned footballer Robert Lewandowski.

He also pointed out that it took Vinicius Jr two years to find his footing at Real Madrid, suggesting that Roque might need a similar adjustment period.

“Vitor Roque expected more minutes with Xavi. Now, with the new coach he is starting from scratch,” he said as quoted by SPORT.

“In front of him [Flick], he has a world-class player like Lewandowski, Vini, for example, took two years to adapt,” he said.

Xavi wanted Roque much earlier

Since his arrival in the winter transfer window, Roque has seen very limited action on the pitch. Initially, there was a plan to send him out on loan this summer to gain more experience and playing time.

However, Cury believes that the situation has significantly changed with the recent coaching change where Flick has replaced Xavi, and this new leadership might open up new opportunities for Roque at Barcelona.

Cury also revealed some behind-the-scenes details about Roque’s transfer saga. Contrary to some reports, he clarified that Xavi wanted Roque to join Barcelona as early as July, not just in December.

In fact, Xavi personally reached out to Roque to express his interest in bringing him to the team sooner. Despite Xavi’s efforts, circumstances prevented Roque from joining the club in the summer.

“It is not true that Xavi wanted the player for December. He wanted him even before, for July, but they did not let him come. Xavi called him personally,” he revealed.

Cury’s warning to Flick

Regarding the new coach, Cury admitted that he doesn’t know him very well. However, he felt confident enough to share his thoughts on the issues that Barcelona faced in the recently concluded season.

“Last year Barça’s defence worked, this year it didn’t. They have conceded a lot of goals,” he said.

Cury’s comments suggest that he is optimistic about the changes that Flick might bring to the team, and he hopes that these changes will provide Roque with better opportunities to showcase his talent.
