PSG have no intention of selling Barcelona target this summer, will pursue loan move

Barcelona will enter the summer transfer window in the hopes of reinforcing their team to the best of their limits in spite of their financial crisis.

While they may be restrained by their situation, the club still have one of the biggest pulls in the footballing world, which will come in handy with a lot of their transfer targets.

Barcelona will be looking to target reinforcements for the holding midfield, right-back, central midfield, and left-wing position. They have come up with several names to fill these gaps, including a certain Xavi Simons.

Having left La Masia at the age of 16 to join PSG, Simons has spent the last season on loan at RB Leipzig and has been one of the best players in Bundesliga during this stint. However, he will likely not continue in Germany next season.

Operation back to Barcelona

Previous reports have stated that PSG have decided they will loan out Simons for another season, at least. The Spaniard is also more than onboard with the idea, and will get to choose his next decision as per a clause in his contract.

And as it turns out, Simons is dreaming about a Barcelona return in the summer. He considers the city his home, and is on great terms with a lot of the first-team players in the squad, like Alejandro Balde.

Barcelona can only dream of a loan move for the player, though, as a report from Fabrizio Romano confirms that PSG have held talks with Simons’ entourage to confirm that they have no intention of selling him permanently this summer.

They will look for a loan move for the 21-year-old as that seems like the ideal scenario for all parties if the player does not want to return to PSG just yet, as seems to be the case. The report also confirms that Simons will get to choose his next destination.

Arsenal and Bayern Munich are reportedly challenging Barcelona for his signature, though.

Excellent opportunity for Barcelona

Signing Simons, albeit on loan, will be an excellent move for Barcelona. Not only does it kill two birds with one stone, but does it exceptionally well.

The PSG man has spent most of this season playing as a left-winger and attacking midfielder for Leipzig, but is also more than capable of covering as a central midfielder.

He has seven goals and 11 assists in 31 appearances this season, and would fit right into Xavi’s four-man midfield system on the left-wing.
