Miguel Angel Diaz has confirmed through COPE that it is not certain if Barcelona’s midfielder Pedri Gonzalez will be selected for the Spanish national team for the upcoming UEFA Euros in Germany.
It is important to mention that Pedri has not played with Luis de la Fuente for Spain yet. However, the midfielder has indeed been named in the 57-man shortlist that the national team coach has prepared.
In less than two weeks, the head coach of the Spanish national football team will reveal the squad for the upcoming European Championship.
It is to be noted that La Roja can bring 26 players to Germany. But before the announcement, the initial list of potential players has been narrowed down.
According to reports, the coach has prepared a preliminary list of 57 players, which has been shared with the clubs of those selected.
Notably, Barcelona lead with eight players, namely, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Alejandro Balde, Pedri, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres.
Despite being called up, however, Balde and Gavi won’t be included due to their respective injuries.
Pedri has now recovered from his injury
Barcelona and the Spanish national team are eagerly anticipating Pedri’s peak performance this upcoming summer.
The player, himself, appears to have fully recovered from his previous thigh injury and is aiming to be in top form for the European Championship.
For the 21-year-old, this will mark his second appearance in the Euros following his memorable summer in 2021, where he featured prominently for La Roja, including at the Tokyo Olympics.
During the UEFA competition, he was a consistent presence in Luis Enrique’s lineup, starting in all six matches and playing as many minutes as possible, only being substituted before the penalty shootout in the quarterfinals against Switzerland.
However, the toll of that intense period between 2022 and 2024 has affected him, but signs suggest that he will reclaim his best form this summer.
