Report – Barcelona working on contract renewal of another La Masia prodigy

According to journalist Toni Juanmarti’s report in SPORT, Barcelona are gearing up for another contract extension, this time for Fermin, shortly after renewing Pau Cubarsi’s contract.

It is to be noted that Fermin, who has now made the first team spot his own, had already extended his contract until 2027 at the start of this season.

Now, the club is keen to acknowledge his progress as the management sees him as an essential asset for the future.

Meanwhile, Xavi has regularly expressed his reliance on Fermin, and the Barcelona leadership, deems him invaluable for the upcoming season. At the same time, however, they suggest that only a very tempting offer could sway their stance.

Why another extension for Fermin Lopez?

Last August, Fermin renewed his contract with Barcelona, binding him until June 30, 2027. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the ongoing season, prompting the club to secure him swiftly.

Despite his modest terms compared to other reserve team players, Barcelona found it relatively straightforward to enhance his deal.

Five months later, he was promoted to the first team to mitigate risks concerning the minimum number of first-team players required on the pitch according to regulations.

However, some unresolved matters persisted despite this adjustment, which Barcelona now aim to address through a contract update. It is said that discussions between the involved parties have commenced.

What would be the length of his new deal?

Meanwhile, the proposed new contract would entail a deserving salary raise for Fermin, who currently earns considerably less than his counterparts.

As the team’s fifth-highest scorer with eight goals, he has proven himself worthy of an upgraded status.

It is suggested that Barcelona’s plan for the extension involves extending his current contract by one or two additional seasons, potentially until 2028 or 2029.

However, final decisions on this matter, as well as potential revisions to the termination clause, which currently stands at €400 million, are yet to be finalized.
