Xavi open to selling Frenkie de Jong for the arrival of Manchester City star – report

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona may consider parting ways with Frenkie de Jong if it opens the door to signing Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.

This shift in stance represents a change from last summer, as the club’s interest in Silva remains strong, yet there is a need for financial flexibility to secure his transfer.

Silva is keen to resolve his future before the conclusion of the Euros, indicating a desire for certainty in his career plans.

Disagreement between Xavi and the board

Although Xavi has expressed his wish to bring Silva to the team, not everyone at the club agrees.

Some within the organization argue that the available funds should instead be allocated toward strengthening the offensive line, which they believe is a higher priority.

This internal debate reveals a tension between Xavi’s vision for the team and other perspectives within Barcelona’s hierarchy.

As the club weighs its options, it must carefully consider whether acquiring Silva at the expense of De Jong would be the right move for the team. The outcome of these decisions could significantly impact Barcelona’s strategy and success in the upcoming season.

Interest in Silva is plenty

Apart from Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich have expressed their interest in signing the Manchester City star, and their offers are much higher than what Barcelona can provide.

However, the Portuguese player is willing to accept a lower offer from Barcelona, as long as it is competitive and includes a long-term commitment.

Despite his willingness to join Barcelona, Silva does not want to wait until the end of the transfer window for the club’s decision.

Some voices within the club, however, oppose this strategy. Despite securing a new Nike contract and other ongoing deals, the current economic climate remains challenging.

As a result, some in the Blaugrana organization believe it would be more prudent to use the €58 million required for signing Silva to instead invest in a standout forward.
