Barcelona president is a fan of La Masia defensive midfielder for four reasons

In a recent interview, Barcelona president Joan Laporta made a significant mention of Marc Casado, mentioning that he would be a part of the first team fold under Hansi Flick from the next season.

It is to be noted that while Casado’s contract renewal as the captain of the reserve team isn’t finalized yet, it is nearly complete.

There is a growing sense of belief that Laporta sees Casado as a phenomenal presence, which is evident by his performance for the youth team

But what exactly has impressed Laporta so much about Casado? According to a report from SPORT, there are four reasons why this 20-year-old has caught the president’s eye.

Leadership in the dressing room

Casado is said to be a natural leader both on and off the field. His teammates admire and love him because he is always there to support them.

The midfielder plays the role of the first captain of the reserve team flawlessly. Rafa Marquez, his coach, had no hesitation in giving him the captain’s armband, seeing him as an extension of himself on the field.

Casado is the go-to player for post-match statements when things go wrong, taking responsibility and shielding his teammates. However, when things go well, he steps back and lets others shine. His maturity and selflessness make him a great leader.

Quality and work ethics

Casado is a midfielder known for his excellent ball control and exceptional vision of the game.

He also isn’t afraid to get physical if the situation demands it. He gives his all in every game and rarely asks to be substituted due to discomfort.

If he can keep his performance up, he often finishes matches exhausted, giving everything he has on the pitch.

This season alone, he has received 13 yellow cards. While this might seem like a lot for a youth player, it demonstrates his intensity and character, qualities that are invaluable to the team.

Versatility and high performance

One of Casado’s most valuable traits is his versatility. He excels in the central midfield but is also capable of playing on the right side.

His best position is as a midfielder, where he can influence the game the most. However, he also has the skill to play more offensively and seek greater depth.

Last season, Xavi saw potential in him as a right-back. Although it took some time for him to get his chance, he managed to participate in the Champions League before finally debuting in La Liga this season.

In the reserve team, he played as a full-back when Héctor Fort was promoted to the first team. He adapted seamlessly, often playing a dual role and performing with his usual efficiency.

A cule through and through

Casado has a deep love for Barcelona, a sentiment that undoubtedly pleases Laporta.

Having been with the club since 2006, his passion for Barça is an added value that has been recognized and appreciated and this strong connection to the club made his contract renewal process smoother.

If everything goes according to plan, and with the president’s backing, Casado is set for many more appearances next season under Flick/
