The defensive midfield may well be Barcelona’s single greatest worry heading into the summer transfer window, more so after the arrival of Hansi Flick.
With the German tactician likely to advocate for a double-pivot, the Catalans are on the market looking for young players who will fit the style of football Flick demands.
Guido Rodriguez was one of Barcelona’s targets on that front, but the club appear to have taken a back-step in his pursuit in recent days.
The player now drawing eyes from the Blaugrana administration is Valencia’s Javi Guerra.
Barcelona are serious
Barcelona have been linked with the 21-year-old Spanish midfielder for a while now, and El Chiringuito confirms that the club’s interest in the star is very serious.
Guerra’s current contract with Valencia runs until the summer of 2027 and boasts of a €100 million release clause.
Barcelona do not intend to get close to that number, especially considering that the Mestalla-based club place the player on the market themselves.
Reports suggest that €25 million could do the trick to sign Guerra, and the latest update brings to light that Barcelona propose to pay the aforementioned amount in instalments.
The coming days will be critical in deciding Guerra’s future, especially with Napoli also lurking with interest.
Guerra’s agent meets Valencia
As revealed yesterday, the midfielder’s agent Javier Garrido met with the administration at Valencia to discuss his client’s future and a possible transfer.
All signs point to Valencia being open to Guerra’s sale, especially given that he was on the market in the winter as well. Barcelona’s biggest worry in the negotiations will thus not be Valencia but the interest from Italy.
At just 21 years of age, Guerra started 28 league games for Valencia in the recently concluded season, scoring four goals and providing one assist in the process. Furthermore, he averages over seven defensive actions and close to five balls recovered per game.
