According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde is almost fully recovered from his injury.
The report adds that once he is back to full fitness, he is expected to become the main choice for the starting position under the new coach, Hansi Flick, from next season.
It is also suggested that the young defender is eager to regain his dynamic and impactful style of play. Meanwhile, Hector Fort has renewed his contract and will also be part of Flick’s squad.
Flick has plans for Balde
Flick, who had great success with Alphonso Davies at Bayern Munich, is enthusiastic about Balde’s potential.
He aims to achieve similar results with Balde at Barcelona. The German coach has received excellent feedback about the left-back and believes he can effectively fill the role of an attacking left wing-back, much like Davies did.
Balde, on the other hand, is aware that Flick’s style of play suits his abilities perfectly and this has motivated him to strive for success.
There were rumours that Balde might be sold if a substantial offer came in during the summer. However, with Flick’s significant plans for him, it seems likely that the young Spanish international will remain at the club.
A difficult season for Balde
Earlier in 2024, Balde suffered a hamstring injury during a match against Athletic Club, which sidelined him for a while.
His absence was particularly felt in crucial matches where Barcelona struggled defensively on the left side. Fortunately, his recovery is going well, and there have been encouraging signs recently.
A few weeks ago, Balde returned to individual training at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, doing some exercises on the field.
Although he was training alone, this marked a positive step in his rehabilitation. With no immediate club or international commitments, Balde has ample time to prepare for the 2024/25 season with a fresh perspective under new leadership.
