Crystal Palace vs West Ham: Preview, predictions and lineups

  • Crystal Palace host West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon
  • Eagles lost their opening fixture to Brentford after refereeing controversy
  • Hammers tasted defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on matchday one

Crystal Palace and West Ham United will both be aiming to earn their first points of the 2024/25 Premier League season when they meet on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles will host the fixture at Selhurst Park following their disappointing and somewhat controversial defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend. Eberechi Eze's goal was harshly chalked off with the game goalless and Oliver Glasner's men ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat following Yoane Wissa's 76th-minute effort.

West Ham suffered a similar fate in their Premier League opener. They lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on home soil, with Jhon Duran's winner coming in the 79th minute. Julen Lopetegui heads across London in search of his first victory as Hammers boss following an eventful summer in the transfer market.

Crystal Palace team news

Glasner has almost an entirely fit squad to choose from on Saturday, with Matheus Franca the only absentee with a rib injury. The 20-year-old should return within the next few weeks.

Somewhat surprisingly, Jean-Philippe Mateta started up front against Brentford last time out despite only recently returning from the Summer Olympics. He lasted just 45 minutes before being replaced by Odsonne Edouard.

Joachim Andersen has agreed a move to Fulham and is almost certain to miss out as a result, while Jordan Ayew may also be absent following reports of a transfer to Leicester City.

West Ham have been similarly fortunate in avoiding injuries this summer, although the Irons are currently without defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez as he recovers from a hamstring problem sustained at the Copa America with Mexico. Kurt Zouma also won't be in the squad at Selhurst Park as he searches for a new club.

There could be first starts for Niclas Fullkrug, Crysencio Summerville, Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this weekend.

Crystal Palace vs West Ham score prediction

Crystal Palace have already beaten Lopetegui's West Ham in pre-season and will fancy their chances of doing the same at Selhurst Park this Saturday.

The Hammers kept just one clean sheet during their friendlies and look open at the back despite defensive reinforcements. The likes of Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Daichi Kamada could take advantage in the capital.

However, West Ham have been consistent scorers in the early days of the Lopetegui era and have plenty of attacking talent to unnerve a Palace defence without the influential Andersen.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-1 West Ham
