- West Ham one of the most active sides in the summer transfer market
- Todibo previously a target for Man Utd and also wanted by Juventus
- Serie A giants unable to stump up funds to agree deal with Nice; West Ham closing in
Jean-Clair Todibo is to undergo a medical at West Ham United ahead of a loan move with option to buy.
The 24-year-old was previously targeted by Manchester United, but UEFA refused to authorise a move to Old Trafford amid concerns that the deal would breach rules on multi-club ownership - United and OGC Nice, Todibo's current employers, will both compete in this season's Europa League.
Juventus have also shown strong interest in Todibo and a move to the Old Lady had been the player's preferred move. But the Serie A giants have been unable to provide Nice with an acceptable financial package, allowing West Ham to revive a move they first agreed in mid-July.
Technical director Tim Steidten has been hard at work this summer, helping West Ham complete deals for Luis Guilherme, Maximilian Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez, and the German has now agreed personal terms with Todibo's camp over a move to London Stadium.
90min understands that Todibo has boarded a flight to London with Steidten to undergo a medical, with West Ham hopeful of completing a loan move that will include a €40m (£34.2m) option to buy, which will become an obligation upon the meeting of certain criteria. A sell-on clause is also included.
Todibo has been at Nice since January 2021 having initially joined the club on loan from Barcelona. The deal was made permanent later that year and he has since made 119 appearances for the club, playing a key role in their qualification for this season's Europa League.
Former Conference League winners West Ham will not play in European competition this season, but expectation is building as new head coach Julen Lopetegui looks to assemble a squad capable of building on the foundations laid by David Moyes' successful four-and-a-half-year tenure.
In addition to pursuing Todibo, West Ham are continuing to work on a deal for United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is available for transfer as the Red Devils look to free up a space for Bayern Munich's Noussair Mazraoui.
Talks for Wan-Bissaka have been ongoing for a number of weeks, with both clubs hopeful that an agreement can eventually be reached. West Ham have also considered Southampton's Kyle Walker-Peters and are monitoring other potential targets in a bid to replace Ben Johnson, who rejected a new contract offer in order to join newly promoted Ipswich Town.
