Barcelona’s saga with Nike has been one of the key highlights of 2024. Earlier in the year, the club’s president Joan Laporta publicly announced his decision to terminate ties with the American apparel giants.
But earlier in the summer, Barcelona renewed their talks with Nike over a new deal that could have greatly benefitted the club.
However, the two parties are yet to reach an agreement to this day, leading many to believe that the club may ultimately falter in their bid to secure a new deal with Nike.
Barcelona establish fresh contact
According to a recent report from Jijantes (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona have made fresh efforts to reinstate the negotiations between the two parties.
The report suggests that progress is being made, with more activity in the Barça offices on Tuesday.
It appears high-ranking executives from FC Barcelona held a meeting with Nike representatives, including Albert Baronet, the brand’s European marketing director.
The meeting is believed to be another step towards finalizing a new contract that would not only reinforce their partnership but also ensure Barcelona remains a key figure in Nike’s football strategy.
On the same day, FC Barcelona unveiled their third kit for the season—a green jersey that pays homage to the club’s highly successful women’s football team.
The design is a tribute to a section of the club that has brought immense pride and joy, contributing to Barça’s global stature.
This symbolic gesture highlights the growing influence of women’s football in the club’s overall identity, an element that could also play a role in the negotiations with Nike.
