Barcelona’s young talent, Hector Fort, has encountered an unfortunate setback in his progress this season.
According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Fort was expected to join the Under-19 team for training sessions in Torrelodones until 8 September.
However, due to a viral infection that has led to a skin rash, the promising right-back has been unable to attend these sessions.
As a result, he remains in Barcelona and did not participate in the morning training session held this Wednesday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper in Sant Joan Despi.
Not registered with the senior team
Currently registered with Barcelona’s reserve team, Fort has yet to make his debut with the club’s first team this season. He came close to doing so last Saturday during the match against Real Valladolid.
Unfortunately, despite the opportunity arising due to Dani Olmo requesting a substitution, Fort was ultimately not selected as the fifth substitute to enter the pitch.
In a gesture of support, manager Hansi Flick personally apologised to the youngster and praised him for his hard work, assuring him that more chances will come his way in the future.
Looking ahead, Fort is expected to take on a crucial role as the right-back, filling in for Jules Kounde. This development comes after Barcelona was unable to secure another player for this position, mainly due to the club’s financial constraints.
The budget limitations prevented the return of Joao Cancelo, who had spent the previous season on loan from Manchester City.
In summary, despite the current health setback and missed opportunities, Hector Fort’s prospects within the team remain promising.
With the backing of the coaching staff and the likelihood of more opportunities in the near future, Fort is set to continue his development and potentially become an essential player for Barcelona’s defence, especially when fixture congestion will take over.
