Manchester United will be aiming to make the perfect start to their Europa League campaign when they face FC Twente at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

The Dutch side, who United boss Erik ten Hag represented as a player, should be no match for one of the richest squads in world football but it's up to the Red Devils to ensure the Eredivisie outfit leave Old Trafford unhappy.

United have kept three successive clean sheets and won two of their last three games after a bruising start to 2024/25, with Wednesday another opportunity to build confidence. While there are still some key defenders missing, Ten Hag has an impressive squad to select from for the visit of his former employers.

Here is how United could line up on Wednesday night.

GK: Andre Onana - The Cameroonian produced a stunning double save on Saturday to rival David Raya's in the Champions League. It proved a key stop for the Red Devils and earned them a third straight shutout.

RB: Noussair Mazraoui - Mazraoui has made an impressive start to life at Old Trafford and was excellent in the goalless draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend. He's been a surprisingly sensible addition from the Red Devils.

CB: Harry Maguire - Matthijs de Ligt is beginning to form a strong partnership with Lisandro Martinez and he almost scored again at the weekend. However, to keep the Dutchman fresh, Maguire may be drafted in against Twente.

CB: Lisandro Martinez - Injuries to Leny Yoro and Victor Lindelof leave Man Utd short in the heart of defence, meaning Martinez should retain his starting spot. Ten Hag will be eager not to overwork the Argentine given his own injury issues.

LB: Diogo Dalot - With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia also missing in the backline, Dalot is likely to start midweek. Midfielder Toby Collyer was used at left-back against Barnsley but is unlikely to be used out of position this time around.

DM: Kobbie Mainoo - An effortless 7/10 performer most weeks - if not higher - Mainoo will get his first taste of Europa League football against Twente.

DM: Manuel Ugarte - Christian Eriksen has enjoyed a surprise mini-renaissance in recent weeks but the veteran can't play every game. After three straight starts, summer signing Ugarte should get some more valuable game time under his belt.

RM: Amad Diallo - The youngster has made an impressive start to the new season and has created more Premier League chances (12) than any other United player this term despite not starting every week. He's created double the chances of United's next most creative player, Bruno Fernandes.

AM: Bruno Fernandes - Amad may have created more chances than Fernandes but nobody in the United side can better the attacking midfielder's 1.3 expected assists. He's still a key influence in the final third for Ten Hag.

LM: Marcus Rashford - After scoring twice in the 7-0 thumping of Barnsley, Rashford was then unexpectedly dropped to the bench at the weekend. Likely just minute management, the England international should return on Wednesday.

ST: Rasmus Hojlund - Having missed the start of the season through a hamstring injury, Hojlund returned from the bench last time out. With Joshua Zirkzee still awaiting his second United goal after a dream debut, the Denmark striker could be preferred here if fit enough.
