Real Madrid sent their congratulations to Cristiano Ronaldo after he scored the 900th goal of his career on Thursday night.

Ronaldo grabbed Portugal's second in a 2-1 victory against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League, with the Selecao winning their first game post-Euro 2024 heartbreak.

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot opened the scoring at the Estadio Da Luz in Lisbon before Ronaldo added a second. Dalot then put the ball in his own net but Portugal held on for the three points.

Madrid took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to send their regards to club legend Ronaldo.

"Another historic feat: 900 goals in the professional career of one of the biggest legends in the history of Real Madrid and world football," the tweet read.

"Congratulations, dear and admired, Cristiano! Real Madrid and the club's fans are always proud of you."

Ronaldo is now the first player in the history of the men's professional game to score 900 goals in official competitions.

"It means a lot," Ronaldo told reporters post-match. "It was a milestone I wanted to reach for a long time. I knew I would reach this number, because as I continue to play, it would happen naturally.

"It was emotional because it's a milestone. It seems like any other milestone, but only I know, and the people around me, how hard it is to work every day, to be physically and psychologically fit, to score 900 goals. It's a unique milestone in my career."

Ronaldo has the chance to extend his record on Sunday when Portugal host Scotland. He will then head back to Saudi Arabia to continue Al Nassr's start to the 2024/25 season - the forward has already scored four goals in all competitions at club level this term.
