The second round of group stage matches in the UEFA Women's Champions League are set to take place this week.

Barclays Women's Super League leaders Manchester City had an impressive start to the tournament last week, beating back-to-back champions Barcelona 2-0.

Chelsea also celebrated a first game win, ending the game with a 3-2 victory against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal however, didn't get off to the same start. The Gunners were thrashed by 5-2 by Bayern Munich, only adding to wider pressure after a disappointing start to the domestic league.

Outside of the English sides, there were also some surprising results. Swedish side Hammarby, who've reached the group stage of the competition for the first time in their history, pulled off a stellar performance against St Polten, winning 2-0.

Juventus beat Valerenga 1-0, while FC Twente comfortably won against tournament newcomers Celtic. Eight-time winners Lyon thrashed Galatasaray 3-0, with Roma also beating Wolfsburg.

The next batch of group stage games gives all clubs the opportunity to turn things around, with the potential to reach knockouts very much still in touching distance.
