Chelsea have been left sweating over the fitness of midfielder Romeo Lavia after Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco confirmed a hamstring injury has kept him out of training.

Lavia missed a handful of games earlier this season with a hamstring injury and limped out of the 1-1 draw with Arsenal with what appeared to be a similar issue, although he was still called up for the Belgium squad for the November internationals.

"I received a small knock," he told RTL Sports after the call-up. "At the moment, we are testing to see if it's okay, but it should be okay, I think."

Unfortunately for Chelsea and Lavia, it appears as though the 20-year-old may need some time on the sidelines as Tedesco confirmed Lavia has not been training with the Belgium squad.

Tedesco initially sparked fears of a new injury by admitting Lavia was one of a handful players who picked up injuries "today", before clarifying: "Romeo Lavia has a hamstring problem, it was bothering him this morning and we didn't want to risk him."

Chelsea are back in action after the international break with a trip to Enzo Maresca's former employers Leicester City, but Lavia's involvement in the game is now clearly in doubt, with Blues officials unlikely to take any risks over a player who missed all but one week of the 2023/24 campaign.
