- Mohamed Salah scored twice in Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Newcastle
- Reds saw lead drop to seven points in Premier League title race
- Salah is out of contract at Anfield in the summer
Arne Slot admitted it is "difficult to predict" if Mohamed Salah will sign a new contract with Liverpool after his starring role in their 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
After falling behind to Alexander Isak's rocket in the 35th minute, Salah provided the assist for Curtis Jones' equaliser before levelling proceedings again following Anthony Gordon's strike just after the hour mark.
The Egyptian looked to have bagged the winner when he netted his second, which took him clear of Erling Haaland as the Premier League's top goalscorer so far this season, but Fabian Schar made it 3-3 when he capitalised on Caoimhin Kelleher's misjudgement of a cross.
Salah's contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign and he has openly admitted his frustration with Liverpool's stance in negotiations. The 32-year-old would reportedly be willing to sign a one-year extension but is yet to receive an offer from the Reds.
Speaking after the game, Slot was full of praise for Liverpool's fifth-highest goalscorer of all time and highlighted his ability to make an impact at any point.
"Every time we need Mo he scores a goal,: he said. "We are hoping and we expect he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us. Mo had a massive impact.
"It's difficult to predict the future but Mo's in an incredible place in a very good team that gives him opportunities at the moment and he's able to do special things. He wasn't playing his best game at first but then he did things not many players can do. He's a special player. His finishing is so clinical. He leads by example and he trains so hard. It is not surprising he does so well."
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all won on Wednesday night, cutting Liverpool's lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points.
