Real Betis received a major boost ahead of their crucial La Liga clash against Real Madrid as the Spanish FA (RFEF) overturned a red card for one of their key attacking players. However, while Betis celebrate, Los Blancos are dealing with fresh injury setbacks that could significantly impact their performance in the title race.
The Brazilian winger, who is on loan from Manchester United, was initially sent off in the dying moments of Betis’ 2-1 victory over Getafe for what was perceived as a reckless challenge on Juan Iglesias. However, the Basque side wasted no time in appealing the decision, arguing that the referee’s match report misrepresented the incident.
The RFEF Disciplinary Committee ultimately ruled in Betis’ favor, stating that the player had genuinely attempted to play the ball and did not make contact with his opponent.
Since his arrival in January, he has been a revelation for the Green-and-Whites, scoring three goals and providing two assists in just five appearances. His struggles in England, where he managed only 12 goals in 96 appearances following an $107 million move to the Premier League, now seem like a distant memory as he flourishes in Spain.

While Manuel Pellegrini celebrates the overturning of the suspension, Real Madrid is said to be seething with frustration. However, their problems extend beyond the Whites’ frustration with the league’s governing body. As they prepare for the match against Betis, two crucial midfielders have been ruled out, creating a selection headache for Carlo Ancelotti.
Double blow and fresh concerns for Real Madrid
One of them had established himself as an orchestrator alongside Aurelien Tchouameni, providing the link between defense and attack. However, his season has taken an unfortunate turn, as he has been ruled out for around two months due to injury. In fact, it’s Dani Ceballos whose absence leaves a gap in Madrid’s midfield, forcing Ancelotti to consider alternatives.

Ancelotti addressed the situation, saying, “There are those who forget that Camavinga played in the Champions League final this year. The two pivots were Kroos and Camavinga. He has the quality to play. Also Modric, Tchouameni… It’s a shame about Ceballos’ injury, he was contributing a lot. But, as always, we are going to replace him.”
To make matters worse, another key midfielder has also been ruled out for the Betis game. Fede Valverde, who has been a dynamic presence in midfield, is suffering from discomfort and will not be risked. The 65-year-old reassured fans that the absence was precautionary, stating, “No scheduled rest, no injury. He has slight discomfort and will not be available, but he will be available in the next game.”

This adds further complications to the Italian boss’ tactical plans, especially with a crucial Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on the horizon. The manager had considered deploying the absent player at right-back against Atletico, but now, he may turn to Raul Asencio instead.
